Overview[]
Icarus is a video game developed and published by RocketWerkz that will be released on December 4th, 2021 on PC.
Closed Beta Weekends started August 27th, 2021 on PC. These Beta Weekends take place bi-weekly.
About[]
Icarus is a session-based PvE survival game for up to eight co-op players or solo play. Explore a savage alien wilderness in the aftermath of terraforming gone wrong. Survive long enough to mine exotic matter, then return to orbit to craft more advanced tech. Meet your deadline or be left behind forever.
- Survive: Confront and conquer a brutal PvE world determined to wear you down or tear you apart. From the toxic atmosphere to savage wildlife and game-altering weather events, Icarus is a planet with a temper. Preparation and planning are everything; find a source of oxygen, stalk your next meal and stock supplies for a long journey into the wilderness.
- Explore: Immerse yourself in a deceptively familiar, yet alien, world. The First Cohort of prospectors has been granted initial mining licenses for over 64 square kilometers of hand-crafted terrain full of hidden corners, resources to mine, and diverse biomes to explore. Use the resources around you to survive – every single tree is harvestable, and every rock can be voxel mined.
- Craft: Master two separate tech trees - planet-side and orbital. Use the planet’s resources to craft handmade tools, buildings, and machinery to protect yourself and aid your mission. Then, return to orbit with your prize – rare exotic materials that you can engineer into advanced tech. As you progress, choose which tech to take on your next drop so you can travel further, gather faster, automate production, or survive longer.
- Escape: Your time on Icarus is limited, so use every second wisely. The orbital space station waits for no one. If you fail to return to your dropship in time, there is no rescue – your character’s progression and tech is lost to planet Icarus. Drop sessions can vary from hours to days long with varied missions and locations. Every drop has a clear goal and time limit, but how you overcome its challenges is up to you.
Press Release[]
An alien world for the taking. Explore, survive and make your fortune. Or die trying.
A resource-rich frontier world has opened up for human exploration and exploitation, where hopefuls claim prospects for a limited time to mine for exotic resources.
Harsh environments demand an envirosuit, regular oxygen, food and water, shelter and constant attention. The wildlife is easily provoked, and your plans may need to change on the fly. Take the resources you find back up to orbit to craft advanced technology for your drop, either with a crew or solo.
Use your time wisely or be left empty-handed or even left behind. Calculate the risks, stretch your endurance and resources. How far are you willing to go?
Dean Hall, creator of landmark survival game DayZ, invites you to the future of survival gaming.
Trailer[]
The Trailer "Icarus - No Rescue" is told from the perspective of the earliest prospectors to come to planet Icarus after its terraforming failed, looking back twenty years later. Their search for exotic matter pushed them to their limits as they survived off the land in this brutal alien world. Those who missed their dropship's return to orbit were left behind forever, while others grew rich crafting exotic matter into new technologies.
Chapters[]
Chapters are future expansions planned for the Icarus game that will expand into more dangerous and less earth-like zones as prospectors venture far from the terraformed areas.
The first chapter of Icarus will follow the fortunes of The First Cohort. As the earliest prospectors to arrive on Icarus, they were granted permits to explore the most Earth-like biomes.
At the moment, 3 chapters have been announced:
