One approach to catching fish is by using a Fishing Trap. Though a Lure is not required, attaching one can increase the quality, length, and weight of the caught fish. Additionally, certain lures can increase the odds of catching a rarer type of fish. To attach a lure to the Basic Fishing Trap, inspect the trap by pressing 'F' and drag the lure into the dedicated lure slot.
Using a Basic Fishing Trap is an excellent way to passively gather fish, but is far slower than using a Fishing Rod. Similar to Water Wheels, Sponges and Spoiled Plants may appear in the items inventory. Any fish caught within the Basic Fishing Trap will not spoil. Fish caught using the Basic Fishing Trap does not contribute to the Bestiary or the Master Angler achievement. The Basic Fishing Trap has 6 slots.
Once a fish is caught, it can be converted to 
Fish Chunks, filleted at a 
Basic Fishing Bench, put on a 
Fish Trophy Mount, or put into an Aquarium. Caught fish can be stored in a
