Overview[]

Week 112 introduced Bees, Beekeeping, and various Bee products. Bees used in a ITEM Beehive Beehive increase crop yield of nearby Dirt Mounds/Crop Plots by 50%.

Beehives[]

Bees are found in beehives, which can be found in Forest and Grassland biomes and within certain caves.

Wild Beehives[]

A wild beehive

Bees in the wild are found swarming old, decayed tree stumps and will become aggressive when prospectors, Mounts, or Pets are within a few meters of the hive. Bees from the hive will chase prospectors who are on foot, though they can be countered with a single melee attack (spear, knife, etc).

Wild beehives will respawn in different locations. The stump the hive is in can be chopped down with around 40 hits with an ITEM Iron Axe Iron Axe.

Cave Beehives[]

Caves may contain one or more hives and are present in all biomes. Transition caves and "mega caves" will not have beehives. Hives can be destroyed by ranged or melee weapons. Once a hive has been destroyed, it will no longer spawn bees. Hives will respawn in caves after a certain amount of time, similar to Caveworms. An ITEM Electric Dehumidifier Electric Dehumidifier prevents cave beehives from respawning, so long as it is active.

Beehive Loot[]

The following items can be received from destroyed beehives:

Worker Bees[]

Worker Bees have a 100% drop chance - 1-3 per beehive

Queen Bees[]

Queen Bees have a 33% drop chance - 1 per beehive

Honeycomb[]

Honeycomb has a 100% drop chance - 3-6 per beehive

Domestic Beehives[]

ITEM Beehive Beehive (Tier 2): Honeycomb Generator[]

The Beehive produces Honeycomb at a rate of 1 Honeycomb per minute. It does not require power and uses Worker or Queen Bees as fuel, consuming 1 worker Bee every 30 min or 1 Queen Bee every hour. The standard T2 Beehive that is manufactured on the Crafting Bench has 12 inventory slots for Honeycomb that stack 25 deep. The Beehive has 4 upgrade slots for expansions, breeders, and extractors.

ITEM Small Beehive Expansion Small Beehive Expansion (Tier 3): Worker Bee Generation[]

The Small Beehive Expansion adds an additional 6 slots to the ITEM Beehive Beehive and reduces fuel (bee) consumption rate. It is added via the Beehive interface.

ITEM Beehive Breeding Center Beehive Breeding Center (Tier 3): Worker Bee Generation[]

The Beehive Breeding Center adds the ability to create Worker Bees by housing a Queen Bee. It requires the Small Beehive to be in place.

ITEM Large Beehive Expansion Large Beehive Expansion (Tier 4): Further Storage & Efficiency Enhancement[]

The Large Beehive Expansion adds an additional 6 slots to the Small Beehive. It requires the Small Beehive Expansion to be in place first.

ITEM Beehive Extractor Beehive Extractor (Tier 4): Automatic Honey Production[]

The Beehive Extractor is an attachment to the Small Beehive allowing for the automatic extraction of Beeswax and Honey from Honeycomb. It requires 500 Watts to operate and produces 2 items/min 1x Beeswax and 1x Honey.
