Mining lets prospectors Craft better, more efficient Tools and Weapons by gaining access to newer Resources. Prospectors mine Mineral nodes, like Iron Ore and Stone with a Pickaxe, and higher-tier pickaxes are generally more efficient and produce better yields.
Gameplay[]
Prospectors can find a number of minerals on the surface of Icarus, and they are randomly generated. Minerals found out in the open include Coal Ore, Oxite, Silica Ore, Stone and Sulfur. These all have their uses, and the strategic prospector will harvest them when needed, or keep them on hand for later use.
The metallic ores are all found in caves, and they make the best tools and weapons, and are essential to late-game Crafting, and specifically Electronics and Electricity. These include Aluminium Ore, Copper Ore, Gold Ore, Iron Ore, Platinum Ore and Titanium Ore. Some of these minerals are much denser, and need to be mined with a Steel Pickaxe or better. In addition, prospectors will get more from a node with a higher quality pickaxe. Many prospectors will not harvest Gold Ore, for example, with anything less than a Platinum Pickaxe.
