Description[]
One approach to catching fish is by using a Fishing Rod. Though a lure is not required, attaching one can increase the quality, length, and weight of the caught fish. Additionally, certain lures can increase the odds of catching fish of a certain rarity or increase the size of the capture area. For a list of available lures, view this page.
To attach a lure, Prospectors must have a lure in their inventory and will need to hold R while holding a Fishing Rod to pull up a radial menu to select a particular lure. Unlike the 
Basic Fishing Rod, lures can be attached to the Refined Wood Fishing Rod.
Fishing Mechanics[]
To cast the line, hold left click and release. Once cast, a bobber with an indicator can be seen floating atop the water. Once the indicator turns yellow, left-click to start the fishing mini-game before the caught fish escapes.
Above the mini-game is a progress bar, indicating your progress towards catching the fish attached to your pole. Below it is an indicator of the fish you are trying to catch and the capture zone (indicated by a light-colored box). During the mini-game, the fish will try to break free and will sporadically move left or right. The goal is to keep the fish in the capture zone to fill the progress bar at the top of the mini-game. While in the mini-game, hold left-click to move the capture zone to the right, and release to move the capture area to the left. While the fish is in the capture zone, the progress bar will fill. But, while it is out of the zone, the progress bar will deplete. Once the progress bar is completely filled, the fish is caught. If the progress bar fully depletes, however, the fish will escape. Note: The size of the capture zone will vary depending on the quality of the fish being captured. The size can be increased using lures or Talents. Once a fish is caught, it can be converted to 
Fish Chunks, filleted at a 
Basic Fishing Bench, put on a 
Fish Trophy Mount, or put into an Aquarium. Caught fish can be stored in a 
Tackle Box to prevent spoilage.
Freshwater fish can be found in rivers, lakes, or caves in Forest Biomes or in caves in Arctic regions that have water. Saltwater fish are found in rivers, lakes, or caves in Deserts, Swamps, or Volcanic biomes. For a map of fishing locations, visit this page.
