Description[]
Shelter is an essential condition of survival on Icarus, and governs how a prospector can withstand the frequent Storms on Icarus.
Prospectors and many Deployables like Crafting Benches must be protected from the impacts and effects of Icarus's frequent and ferocious storms. In the end, that's all shelter is: physical protection.
Shelter can be found in Icarus's natural environment in several ways, but the most common is within one of the numerous Caves that dot the surface. In a pinch, a prospector can crouch down and carve a small niche out of a boulder using a Pickaxe.
As a prospector advances in experience, they can begin to build their own shelter. There are several different types of building materials that provide different advantages and disadvantages. For example, Thatch Building Pieces are cheap and can be built early in the game, but they cannot withstand stronger storms and are very flammable. Concrete Building Pieces are not available until the prospector has reached level 20 and unblocked Tier 3 of the Tech Tree, but can withstand the strongest storms.
Unsheltered[]
When a prospector is unsheltered during a storm, they will sustain increasingly negative Status Effects, like Light Exposure which decreases movement speed. Eventually, prospectors who remain in extreme storms long enough will begin losing health points, and they may die.
Many Deployables cannot be used unless they are placed in a sheltered location.
