Located throughout Prometheus is a rare plant variety that produces 3-5 
Volatile Raw Exotics and 2-3 
Volatile Exotic Seeds when harvested. The seed from the Strange Plants can be placed in a Crop Plot or Dirt Mound, but the full-grown plant does not produce seeds, only Volatile Raw Exotics. The plot-grown plants are affected by plant fatigue and will grow to maturity at a slower rate after each subsequent harvest. They will eventually reach -200% growth and -100% yield, to which they will no longer mature.
The Volatile Raw Exotics can be cleansed in an 
Organic Residue Cleanser and then sent back up to the workshop using an 
Orbital Exchange Interface.
In Open Worlds, any given plant location has a 10% chance of spawning a Strange Plant every 3 hours of prospect time (on the 3-hour mark since the start time of your 'Time on Prospect' ie 3, 6, 9, etc). To view your "Time on Prospect," press 'I' and the time will be indicated below the list of detailed statistics on the right. After 15 hours on average, most, if not all, potential locations will have a Strange Plant.

Strange Plants have a 20% chance of spawning at each potential location at the start of a prospect, whether that be an Open World or a Mission. To view the potential spawn locations for Strange Plants, head over to Icarus Intel, select Prometheus from the dropdown menu under the filter tab, and show Exotics Deposits.
